Leeside is an iconic Vancouver DIY skatepark named after Lee Matasi, a popular Vancouver skater and artist who was murdered in 2005.  Here’s an excellent article about Lee and Leeside if you want to learn more.

  • In a former transit tunnel under the Cassiar St. Connector at the intersection of East Hastings St and Highway 1
  • Directions:
    • Go 1 block south from east Hastings on Windermere St.
    • Turn east on E Pender St. Go to the dead end
    • Turn left into the lane behind the Ecomm building.
    • Leeside will be straignt ahead
  • Limited parking in the laneway leading to Leeside
  • On street parking on East Pender. Don’t park in the access to the commercial building & Leeside.

This skate spot in in a residential neighbourhood close to people’s homes.  Please be respectful of the neighbours by not being loud, especially at night, and as usual please put garbage in the appropriate containers. There has been some controversy about the impact this skatespot would have on the community.  Let’s make sure there are only positive outcomes for the neighbours!

The Ambleside skatepark was renamed in honour of Peter Sullivan on July 12, 2016). Sullivan, owner of Supra Distribution, advocated for a modern skatepark at the Ambleside skatepark site, and helped raise $100 000 toward the cost of the new park. Media release

    • Enter the park on 13th St at Marine Drive
    • Turn left on Argyle Ave, skatepark will be on your right in about 300m
  • Parking on Argyle Ave across from the skatepark, and in the parking lot est of the park
  •  Washrooms in the building west of the skatepark
  • Basketball courts and a fenced ball hockey area are adjacent to the skatepark
  • Ambleside was updated with a major upgrade completed in 2016
